The rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry offered a poetry contest for students K-12 with each grade level writing over a traditional Oklahoma symbol. We had many entries and Ms. Bexlynn Bruner, 1st grade in Paula Unger's class placed second with her poem about the Oklahoma Symbol for the fur bearing animal the raccoon. She won 2nd place and the only winner in Adair and Cherokee county at all so shout out to her! Her poem was called the Oklahoma Trickster. Way to go Bexlynn! Her poem will be published in an anthology that will be available for purchase at Barnes and Noble! (I will send the link soon for anyone interested.)
There will be an "open to the public" Wonder City Wordfest festival in Locust Grove on April 11th to celebrate words and community. They will have kite decorating and flying with the Tulsa Wind Riders, awards, door prizes, impromptu contest and more! This is also a chance to tour the ROMP's (Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry) museum and exhibit. The feature exhibit is Rhyming and ROMPing on Route 66, which celebrates the Mother Road's centennial.
There will be an award presentation during the festival at noon where the winners will recieve their cash prizes and read their poems. Bring the family and enjoy a day outside, discover a new place to visit in Oklahoma that is close by and see Bexlynn win her prize money and read her poem.
