Kindergarten had a blast learning different chemical reactions to see how their mouth "Volcanoes" can explode. 5th grade boys struggled and strategized with the toothpaste but still - once it's been "exploded" and put out there - it can't be taken back. Love tying books to science and discovery!

Starting out strong this third week of school with "My Mouth is a Volcano" by Julie Cook. 4th graders listened to the story read by a classmate and then learned a lesson on the power of words. We need to be careful about what we say and when we say it (hence "volcano mouth".) Even if our words are not mean, if they interrupt others, they can still hurt.
Challenge... squeeze all the toothpaste out of the tube. Give each member of the group a popsicle stick and with a 5 min timer, get all the toothpaste you can back into the tube. They laughed, learned, got frustrated and ended with IT's IMPOSSIBLE! The point made was : words are like this toothpaste - once they come out of your mouth, you cannot take them back. Reading IS STEM and STEAM - just gotta look for the angles 😉. Stay posted for more "Volcano" activities!

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLPARK!!
Thanks to the support of Arkansas Tech University, all K-8 students who read for 30 min a day next week will receive 2 free dugout premium tickets to the Tues Aug 25th game. All students will be recognized on the field and video board. Use the form and give to your child who can redeem it at the Arvest Ballpark Box Office with a parent once completed. Readers are Leaders!
If your child needs a form and you cannot access it there will be copies in the basket outside the elementary library door.

Happy New School Year! 26-27 GIFTED AND TALENTED INFO! We WILL be having the after school gifted and talented program classes, however the schedule and placement etc. will come within the next two weeks. For now, I will be reaching out to new nominees and finish screenings during that after school hour. You will be notified in writing if your child has been NOMINATED and we will proceed from there. PLEASE REMEMBER I AM THE DISTRICT COORDINATOR AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH SELECTION of the students in the program. There will be a new group created on Parent Square and a new private Faceboook page so be sure and have the parentsquare app downloaded. The old facebook group has been deleted and I will send info on access of the new page as soon as possible. If you do not have Facebook, everything will also be on Parent Square. Parents, Please Be Aware of Our One-Way Traffic Pattern!
As we kick off the first day of school this Thursday, our one-way entrance will be in effect until further notice to help keep everyone safe and traffic flowing smoothly.
➡️ Enter from Hwy 59 to drop off your student (road by Vo-Tech and Preschool) ⬅️ Exit onto Hwy 51 after drop-off (road by softball fields and comes out at Ozark electric)
This will be between the hours of 7:30-8:30am and 2:30-3:30pm.
Parent pickup will begin at 3:10pm for Early Childhood (3s, 4s, and KDG)
Parent pickup for all other students will begin at 3:20pm.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to ensure a safe arrival for all of our students. Thank you, and we can't wait to welcome our Raiders back to school!
