Maryetta School Awarded Federal Grant to Launch Indigenous STEAM Program
STILWELL, OKLAHOMA – Maryetta School has been awarded an Indian Demonstration grant from the U.S. Department of Education to implement the RISE (Resources of Indigenous STEAM Education) program, a five-year initiative serving 675 students in grades PK3 through 8th grade.
With 82% of students being members of the Cherokee Tribe, the program will integrate Indigenous knowledge with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education while expanding early childhood services and college readiness support.
"This grant represents a transformative opportunity for our students and community," said Rita Bunch, Project Director and member of the Cherokee Nation. "The RISE program will create educational experiences that are both academically rigorous and culturally sustaining.” Maryetta Superintendent Lori Means added, "We are thrilled to bring the RISE program to our students and families. This grant will provide resources and opportunities to our students while preparing them for future success, we are investing in the next generation of leaders and innovators.”
From lessons to life skills, our junior high teachers go above and beyond to support, challenge, and inspire students. We are so thankful for your hard work and heart!
